Job description

ACCOUNTING MANAGER - LEGAL - BUCKHEAD, GA

Our client, a fast-growing Personal Injury Law Firm located in the heart of Buckhead, is looking for an Accounting Manager to join their team. This is a great opportunity to help to build a formal accounting function as the firm begins to assume more accounting responsibilities previously performed by their CPA firm.

After 6-8 weeks of training/acclimation, this will be a hybrid role where you can work two days per week at home.

This role will be a hands-on role and is ideal for an accounting professional willing to manage the day-to-day accounting and finance operations with the assistance of two AP Specialists. This Manager will play a critical role in maintaining overall responsibility of routine financial tasks, tracking trends and discrepancies, ensuring compliance with legal accounting standards, and directing the daily tasks of the team.

Initially, your focus will be primarily on the AP process as you supervise and work with two AP Specialists and help to develop SOPs. Over time, you will grow in your responsibilities to become a full-cycle Accounting Manager. As the firm continues to grow, there will be the opportunity to grow into a Controller role as well.

The ideal candidate will have some experience working in a law firm or in a treasury position, will have full-cycle accounting knowledge, will have previous management experience, and will have strong QuickBooks skills.

If you are a critical thinker and enjoy solving problems or complicated issues, enjoy putting together SOPs, and enjoy variety in your work, this could be a great opportunity for you!

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES will include over time:

  • Review and approve daily transactions.
  • Monitor fraud alerts.
  • Process payments for medical records, police reports, and vendor invoices, using online portals or issuing checks as needed.
  • Handle settlement deposits, client disbursements, and related reporting in QuickBooks and Excel.
  • Maintain organized financial documentation, including CPA tax files and shared accounting records.
  • Process Transactions and perform Bank Reconciliations.
  • Communicate with vendors and staff regarding W9s, returned checks, fee reductions, and case-specific updates.
  • Assist with 1099 corrections, vendor updates, and IRS TIN matching.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting data entry for monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing.
  • Track client retainers and ensure proper application to invoices and billing.
  • Monitor aging reports and follow up on receivables.
  • Record payroll expenses and liabilities.
  • Post employee expense reimbursements or advances.
  • Provide customized internal reports and key metrics for use in business decisions and strategy.
  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to meet the evolving needs of the organization.
