Job summary

IsoTalent is assisting a fast-growing personal injury law firm with offices across multiple states. The Director of Finance and Accounting will lead financial strategy and day-to-day operations, overseeing a team of five and compliance across 26+ trust accounts.

You will partner with ownership on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic initiatives while maintaining strong internal controls. The role requires CPA-preferrred or equivalent executive accounting experience, 7–10+ years in accounting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance required; Master's preferred.
  • CPA license preferred; equivalent executive-level accounting experience acceptable.
  • 7–10+ years progressive accounting experience.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Strong expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury management, internal controls.
  • Experience with trust (IOLTA) accounting and State Bar trust compliance a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership and oversight of accounting, treasury, financial reporting, and cash management functions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of five accounting professionals.
  • Oversee general ledger, month-end/year-end close, payroll oversight, banking relationships, accounting systems, and financial operations.
  • Maintain oversight of 26+ trust (IOLTA) accounts with compliance and internal controls.
  • Prepare executive financial statements, dashboards, forecasts, and analyses.
  • Partner with ownership on budgeting, cash flow management, and strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as liaison with outside CPA for tax planning, reporting, and audits.
  • Develop financial controls and risk management practices to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Drive process improvements to optimize financial reporting and leverage technology.
  • Oversee select personal financial matters for ownership as needed.

A Day in the Life of the Director of Finance and Accounting

This role leads the financial strategy and day-to-day operations for a fast-growing, multi-state law firm, overseeing a team of five accounting professionals and compliance across more than 26 trust (IOLTA) accounts. As a trusted advisor to ownership and executive leadership, you'll help drive the firm's continued growth through strong financial controls, sharp forecasting, and scalable systems.

Responsibilities include:
  • Providing executive leadership and oversight of accounting, treasury, financial reporting, and cash management functions
  • Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of five accounting professionals
  • Overseeing the general ledger, month-end and year-end close, payroll oversight, banking relationships, accounting systems, and financial operations
  • Maintaining executive oversight of 26+ trust (IOLTA) accounts, ensuring compliance with State Bar trust accounting rules, fiduciary obligations, reconciliation requirements, and internal controls
  • Preparing executive financial statements, dashboards, forecasts, and analyses
  • Partnering with ownership on budgeting, strategic planning, cash flow management, and key business initiatives
  • Serving as the primary liaison with the firm's outside CPA for tax planning, financial reporting, and audits
  • Developing financial controls, accounting policies, and risk management practices to ensure compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations
  • Leading continuous improvement initiatives to optimize financial processes, strengthen reporting, and leverage technology
  • Overseeing select personal financial matters for ownership, coordinating with outside financial advisors and tax professionals
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred
  • CPA license preferred, but equivalent executive-level accounting experience will be acceptable
  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • 5+ years in an accounting leadership role
  • Strong expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury management, internal controls, financial modeling, and executive-level reporting
  • Advanced proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Proven success leading accounting teams and partnering with business owners, executive leadership, and external CPAs in a growing organization
  • Exceptional analytical, leadership, and strategic problem-solving skills, with the highest standards of integrity, judgment, and professionalism
  • Law firm accounting experience, including trust (IOLTA) accounting and State Bar trust compliance, strongly preferred
