Experience: Senior Level
Salary: $90,000 - $120,000 per hour
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Team Leadership
- Supervise Staff Accountants and an Accounting Assistant, directing daily priorities and balancing workload
- Assign clear ownership, backup, and emergency backup coverage for every recurring accounting task
- Train and cross-train the team across AP, AR, and reconciliation work
- Serve as first-level reviewer on all team-prepared work before it reaches the Controller
- Hold regular one-on-ones and deliver ongoing performance feedback
Monthly Close & General Ledger
- Own the monthly close calendar day by day and track task completion
- Review and approve journal entries, confirming supporting documentation before posting
- Own the balance sheet reconciliation process, including assignment, review, and resolution of reconciling items
- Review bank, credit card, and balance sheet account reconciliations
- Maintain prepaid, accrual, fixed asset, and amortization schedules tied to the GL
- Prepare draft monthly financial statements and variance tie-outs
- Ensure accurate GL coding by account, class, and location
AP & AR Oversight
- Oversee the full AP cycle: bill capture, coding, approval routing, and the weekly payment run
- Review payment batches for accuracy, duplicates, and required approvals before release
- Oversee customer invoicing, cash application, and AR aging
- Monitor collections and elevate aged balances with the Key Accounts team
- Approve vendor master changes and enforce W-9 and banking verification controls
Controls, Compliance & Documentation
- Enforce internal controls and accounting policies across all transactional processes
- Maintain audit-ready workpapers and supporting schedules every close period
- Coordinate schedules and documentation for external audit, tax, and compliance requests
- Support annual 1099 processing and sales and use tax data preparation
- Document procedures so any trained team member can run recurring tasks
Process Improvement & Systems
- Eliminate manual steps and automate schedules and reporting where practical
- Maintain the chart of accounts and class and location tracking in QuickBooks Online
- Partner on system changes, new tool evaluation, and integrating acquired entities onto company processes
- Improve close calendar, reconciliation standards, and documentation practices
Qualifications
Needed:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with hands-on ownership of the monthly close and account reconciliations
- Minimum 2 years supervising, training, or directing the work of accounting staff
- Working knowledge of AP and AR cycles end to end
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online or a comparable accounting system, plus strong Excel and Microsoft 365 skills
- Proven ability to meet a recurring close calendar and hold others to deadlines
- Ability to explain accounting matters clearly to non-accountants
Preferred:
- Working knowledge of GAAP, ASC, and FASB requirements
- Experience in a private equity-backed or lender-covenanted environment
- Multi-entity accounting experience, including intercompany transactions and eliminations
- Track record building processes, controls, or documentation where none existed
- Recurring revenue experience in a tech-enabled services organization
- Comfort adopting new tools; AI tool experience a plus
