Job description

Remote role!! Newly created position, reporting into the CFO who is an excellent mentor and leader, ready to take this person to the next level in their career. Hands on role for a growing and scaling business!

As our Company continues to grow, we're seeking an Accounting Manager to lead our day-to-day accounting function, strengthen our finance/accounting operations, and help support The Company's next stage of growth.

About The Role

This role is designed for an exceptional accounting professional who is ready to take the next step toward becoming a finance leader.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer and working closely with the Company's seasoned Fractional Controller, you'll lead The Company's day-to-day accounting function while gaining the mentorship, technical exposure, and executive visibility that many accounting professionals don't experience until much later in their careers.

You'll own the monthly close and financial reporting, partner on technical accounting and strategic initiatives, and help maintain the strong financial controls and disciplined accounting processes required to support a growing company in a highly regulated industry.

Rather than spending years focused on a single area of accounting, you'll gain broad exposure to financial reporting, technical accounting, revenue recognition, audits, tax coordination, banking relationships, Board reporting, and executive decision-making.

As The Company continues to grow, there will be significant opportunities for increased responsibility and career advancement based on your performance and the Company's evolving needs.

What You'll Do
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
  • Prepare or review recurring and non-recurring journal entries.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Prepare monthly variance analyses and supporting management reporting.
  • Maintain an organized, timely, and accurate close process.
  • Ensure accounting records accurately reflect the Company's financial position.
Financial Close & Financial Reporting
  • Maintain the Company's general ledger.
  • Oversee routine accounting activities to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage the Company's Accounting Specialist responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash application, vendor maintenance, and other transactional accounting activities.
  • Lead the operational aspects of the Company's cash disbursement process, including vendor validation, electronic payment preparation, and ensuring compliance with established internal controls and approval authority.
  • Ensure timely completion of all accounting activities.
Accounts Receivable & Collections
  • Own the Company's accounts receivable and collection efforts, ensuring timely collection of outstanding customer balances.
  • Serve as the primary accounting contact for customer billing and collection matters, partnering with customer accounting and accounts payable personnel to resolve payment discrepancies, billing questions, and disputed invoices.
  • Coordinate internally with Sales, Client Success, Operations, and executive leadership to resolve customer account issues and support timely collections.
  • Review accounts receivable aging, identify collection risks, and recommend appropriate collection strategies.
  • Recommend bad debt reserves and customer account write-offs to the Chief Financial Officer, as appropriate.
Audit, Tax & Compliance
  • Prepare annual audit schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate audit requests and serve as the primary day-to-day contact for external auditors.
  • Prepare tax workpapers and supporting schedules for external tax advisors.
  • Coordinate information requests from tax professionals.
  • Assist with sales tax, payroll tax, 1099 reporting, and other compliance activities.
  • Escalate technical accounting or tax matters to the CFO and Fractional Controller as appropriate.
Financial Systems & Process Improvement
  • Execute and maintain the Company's accounting policies and procedures.
  • Recommend process improvements and automation opportunities.
  • Maintain accounting documentation, close checklists, and supporting procedures.
  • Assist in optimizing accounting systems and financial reporting processes.
  • Support compliance with HITRUST, SOC 2, HIPAA, and other regulatory or control frameworks as they relate to accounting operations.
Technical Accounting
  • Research accounting issues and recommend appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Draft accounting memoranda and accounting policy documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Fractional Controller regarding complex accounting matters.
  • Assist with implementation of new accounting standards.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, including ASC 606 and other accounting guidance applicable to the Company.
External Reporting, Filings & Stakeholder Requests
  • Own the preparation and timely submission of recurring and nonrecurring financial reports, filings, questionnaires, certifications, and other requests from governmental agencies, lenders, investors, customers, prospective customers, insurance carriers, and other external stakeholders.
  • Prepare recurring lender reporting packages, covenant compliance certificates, and other reporting required under the Company's lending, financing, and investor arrangements.
  • Escalate matters requiring technical accounting, tax, legal, regulatory, or executive judgment to the Chief Financial Officer, Fractional Controller, or appropriate external advisor.
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Supervise and develop the Company's Accounting Specialist or similar resources.
  • Partner with department leaders to improve accounting processes and financial reporting.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic initiatives as requested by the CFO.
  • Provide information and insight as required to support Board reporting preparation, financing activities, and other corporate initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
  • CPA designation strongly preferred (or active progress toward CPA license)
  • 5-8 years of combined progressive accounting experience, preferably inclusive of some public accounting (Big Four or comparable regional firm strongly preferred) and some private industry accounting experience (extra credit for experience in SaaS, software, technology, or other recurring revenue business).
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with revenue recognition under ASC 606.
  • Experience owning significant portions of a monthly financial close.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Experience working directly with external auditors.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and deep experience with QuickBooks Online.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
Perform other duties in support of the Company's objectives.

If you're ready to make an impact and take your career to the next level, we'd love to hear from you.
