Job summary

Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Chicago seeks a Spanish-speaking Accounting Intern to support general accounting tasks, account reconciliations, and journal entries. The role offers hands-on experience in a dynamic, mission-driven school finance team.

The position is part-time (January–May 2027), 15–20 hours per week, with an hourly rate of $20–$22 depending on experience. Training will be provided by an experienced accounting team.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in accounting or finance program with at least 2 years of coursework completed.
• Strong Excel skills including VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables.
• Analytical and detail-oriented with good problem solving.
• Able to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile bank accounts on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
• Analyze discrepancies in bank balances.
• Prepare and post journal entries to correct discrepancies.
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
• Investigate reconciling items and variances promptly.
• Assist with month-end closing procedures.
• Review tax information for financial aid applications.
• Assist with tuition payments and deposits.
• Provide support to the Accounting team as needed.

Job description

We are seeking a Spanish speaking Accounting Intern to join our team and assist with general accounting duties, reconciliations of bank and balance sheet accounts and preparation of various schedules. This internship will provide an opportunity to gain practical experience in accounting and finance and to work with a team of experienced professionals in a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will have strong Excel skills, an analytical mindset, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

• Reconcile bank accounts on a daily/weekly/monthly basis
• Analyze and identify any discrepancies in the bank account balances
• Prepare and post journal entries to correct any discrepancies found during the reconciliation process
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy of account balances
• Investigate and resolve any reconciling items or variances in a timely manner
• Assist with month-end closing procedures
• Review tax information for financial aid applications.
• Prepare and create journal entries for weekly cash deposits
• Receive tuition payments and assist in tuition collection
• Provide support to the Accounting team as needed

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an accounting or finance program, with a minimum of 2 years of coursework complete
• Strong Excel skills, including the ability to use VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills
• Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills
• Availability to work 15-20 hours per week

This is a part-time internship position from January to May 2027. The position offers a great opportunity for a candidate to gain hands-on experience in full-cycle accounting processes and procedures. The successful candidate will receive training and guidance from our experienced accounting team.

Hourly Rate

$20–22 per hour, depending on experience
