Job summary

American Electric Power in Columbus, OH is seeking an Accounting & Finance Intern to gain hands-on experience across financial statements, records, and month-end processes. You will support the accounting team and participate in technology‑driven transformation projects in a collaborative, professional setting.

This onsite internship offers mentorship, networking, and a housing stipend for moves over 45 miles.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
• Familiarity with accounting software.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports.
• Help maintain accurate financial records and databases.
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Participate in the reconciliation of accounts.
• Conduct data analysis and assist with budgeting activities and support technology driven transformation projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the accounting team.
