Job description

Accounting Clerk

Job Title: Accounting Clerk
Type: Full-Time
Company: FTSGPS / Forward Thinking Systems
Location: In-office, Jericho, NY
Reports to: Director of Accounting & Finance

The Role

We are looking for a smart, detail-oriented Staff Accountant to work directly with our Director of Accounting & Finance. This is a hands‑on accounting role for someone who understands the fundamentals, cares about accuracy, and can spot when something does not look right.

This is not just a data‑entry position. The right person will support AP, AR, collections, reconciliations, month‑end close, and day‑to‑day accounting work while growing into more ownership over time.

What You Will Do
  • Support month‑end close, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and account analysis.
  • Process and review accounts payable, including vendor invoices, payments, statement reviews, and issue resolution.
  • Support accounts receivable and collections, including customer follow‑up, aging review, payment posting, and invoice questions.
  • Prepare bank, credit card, prepaid, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Research discrepancies and follow through until they are resolved.
  • Help prepare monthly financial reports and supporting schedules for management.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and organized documentation for audits and internal review.
  • Work with Sales, Operations, and Customer Success on billing questions, credits, payment issues, and account cleanup.
  • Identify manual or inefficient processes and suggest practical ways to improve them.
What We Are Looking For
  • 2-4 years of accounting experience in a hands‑on accounting, bookkeeping, AR/AP, or staff accountant role.
  • Strong understanding of accounting basics — debits, credits, accruals, reconciliations, and why entries hit specific accounts.
  • Comfortable working with both AP and AR, including collections and customer/vendor follow‑up.
  • Strong Excel skills, including formulas, filters, pivot tables, and lookup functions.
  • High attention to detail without needing to be micromanaged.
  • Curious and proactive — willing to ask why, investigate issues, and bring possible solutions.
  • Good communication skills with internal teams, customers, and vendors.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent practical experience.
Helpful, But Not Required
  • Experience with QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, Intacct, or a similar accounting system.
  • Experience in a technology, SaaS, subscription, fleet, or service‑based business.
  • Exposure to multi‑state billing, sales tax, recurring invoices, or customer account reconciliations.
What You Get
  • $75,000 – $85,000 base salary, depending on experience.
  • Medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, and standard company benefits.
  • Direct mentorship from the Director of Accounting & Finance.
  • A clear path to grow into a Senior Accountant role as the company scales.
  • Real exposure to the business — not just one narrow slice of accounting.
