THE POSITION

Are you a detail-oriented individual with accounting experience looking for a new challenge? The Department of Revenue is happy to welcome an Accounting Assistant to join our talented team of fiscal professionals. This position gives you the opportunity to perform cash management functions within the division to help ensure its operations are efficient and effective. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Accountant Assistant, you will be reviewing reports submitted by the various Magisterial District Judges (MDJ) and Clerk of Court offices each month, verifying weekly payments before settlement, and contacting the MDJ or Clerk of Courts office to advise them of errors. You will have the opportunity to address inquiries from banks, user bureau, or taxpayers by researching the subjects and reporting findings directly to them. Work also involves comparing reports to confirm the total amount of money in the account and amount of wired money from the previous day, completing wire transfers, as well as preparing transmittals to ensure money is adjusted to the correct accounting and matches the wire transfer. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Running daily reports
  • Monitoring debit and credit memos from all banks for problems that need follow-up
  • Logging receipts of each bank statement on the accounting control ledger
  • Balancing all county ledger sheets by region every six months
  • Depositing cash and checks with the bank, maintaining spreadsheets to track checks, and reviewing monthly bank statement to verify checks were cashed and the account is balanced
  • Entering County collection reports into the database

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work; or
  • An Associate Degree in accounting or business administration including or supplemented by six credits of accounting.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
