Job summary

The Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA), part of the Maryland Department of Transportation, is seeking an Accountant Trainee in the Office of Finance at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). This open recruitment will populate an eligibles list to fill this vacancy and future postings.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting with at least three credit hours in auditing.
  • Experience: None.
  • Substitution: 30 accounting credit hours including auditing can substitute for the degree.

Responsibilities

  • Examine and analyze accounting systems and reports using GAAP to modify and maintain agency systems.
  • Create and send invoices reflecting current rents (approx. $90 million annually).
  • Prepare and maintain AR reports and logs, including revenue and airline traffic data.
  • Reconcile invoice payments and address customer communications to ensure satisfaction.

The MAA is currently accepting applications for the position of Accountant Trainee within Office of Finance at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall Airport).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Examining, analyzing, and interpreting accounting systems, records, and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles in order to modify and maintain agency accounting systems.
  • Creating and sending out invoices that reflect the current rents. The approximate annual total of these types of invoices is $90 million.
  • Preparing and maintaining various reports and logs relating to the Accounts Receivable functions, to include but not limited to logs of monthly revenue activity reports and airline traffic reports.
  • Reconciling any differences between invoices and payments with the goal of resolving any differences in a timely manner. Responsible for customer communications and ensuring customer satisfaction by working directly with customers involving other departments as necessary.
This position is located at BWI Marshall Airport in Anne Arundel County, MD.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing.

Experience: None.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with thirty credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing, for the required education.

2. Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.
