The Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) is the owner & operator of both BWI Thurgood Marshall and Martin State Airports, serving over 27 million passengers annually.

MAA is currently accepting applications for the position of Transportation Engineer V within the Office of Facilities Maintenance at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall Airport).

This position is a Transportation Engineer V and assists in managing the design, analysis, administration, review, coordination, budget (development and management), and execution of maintenance and engineering projects in the Office of Facilities Maintenance (OFM), Utilities Section of the Maryland Aviation Administration at BWI Marshall Airport and Martin State Airport (MTN).

Responsibilities
  • Managing the design, analysis, administration, review, coordination, budget (development and management) and execution of maintenance and engineering projects in the Office of Facilities Maintenance (OFM) and Utilities Section of MDOT MAA at BWI Marshall and MTN.
  • Directing and managing engineering consultants and electrical contractors for investigations, inspections, and evaluation of existing electrical, control, and metering systems.
  • Assigning projects to A/E consultants, contractors and MAA staff based on priorities, schedules and budget in compliance with administrative, tenant and regulatory requirements.
  • Managing and administering electrical contracts, including airfield and terminal electrical maintenance, high voltage testing, airfield lighting control systems and power monitoring system service contracts.
  • Participating in design, construction management and commissioning of projects at BWI Marshall Airport and MTN.
Important

This is an emergency essential position. Employees in this role are required to be available to work during weather, operational and/or disaster emergency conditions, and must be able to work any shift in a 24‑hour facility as needed by MAA.

This position is located at BWI Marshall Airport in Anne Arundel County, MD.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Five years of professional engineering experience, with work in medium voltage power systems (33kV & 15kV), substations/switchgears with main and tie breakers, low‑voltage power distribution (480V), power meters, emergency generators, and uninterrupted power supplies.

  • Preferred experience: utility substations, airport electrical infrastructure, industrial power systems, government infrastructure projects.
Notes
  1. Additional work experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for required education.
  2. Master's degree may substitute one year of required experience.
  3. Current professional engineering registration in Maryland or comparable state satisfies education requirement.
  4. Personnel may be required to hold a Professional Engineer, Land Surveyor, or Property Line Surveyor License.
  5. Personnel may need an Engineer‑In‑Training license from the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.
  6. Authorized to operate a motor vehicle when required; must hold valid Maryland driver’s license.
