Express Employment is working with a well-established Northern Minnesota company seeking an experienced Accountant & Payroll Specialist to take ownership of key accounting and payroll functions while supporting the organization’s overall financial operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of accounting or finance experience.
• Knowledge of accounting principles, payroll practices, and financial recordkeeping.

• Proficiency using accounting software.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication with employees, vendors, and customers.

Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle accounting, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, general ledger, purchasing, and payroll accounting.
• Process biweekly payroll accurately and confidentially.
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, vendor statements, and customer accounts.
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and assist with month-end and year-end close.
• Generate financial reports and assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Prepare payroll tax filings and maintain compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Monitor outstanding receivables and assist with collections as needed.
• Maintain employee payroll records, benefits deductions, and tax withholdings.
• Set up customer accounts, prepare invoices, process payments, and maintain vendor records.
• Maintain organized financial records and assist with additional administrative projects as needed.

THE ROLE

You'll be an important part of the company's financial operations, managing responsibilities across accounting, payroll, reporting, reconciliations, and financial administration. This position is ideal for someone who can see the big picture while maintaining a high level of accuracy in the details.

What You'll Do

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA credentials are a plus
• 5+ yearsof accounting or finance experience
• Working knowledge of accounting principles, financial recordkeeping, and payroll practices
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize deadlines in a fast-paced office environment
• High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial and personnel information
• Proficiency using accounting software
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail
• Professional communication skills with the ability to work effectively with employees, vendors, and customers
