Responsibilities

  • Perform month-end close functions including preparing and/or reviewing of journal entries for month-end close ensuring transactions are reasonable and in compliance with Business Processes, GAAP, CAS, and FAR.
  • Prepare detailed variance analysis for indirect departments, comparing actual results to plan and forecast, with explanations for variances.
  • Provide reports identifying variances and other reports as requested to management.
  • Prepares 3-year plan, forecasts, and capital budgets for indirect departments to include preparation of basis of estimates for DCAA.
  • Partner with Human Resources and Payroll to resolve payroll discrepancies and ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.

Job description

As the Accountant III, you will perform professional accounting duties that require an understanding of both accounting theory and practice. Provide the full scope of professional level accounting services to assigned indirect departments to include month-end close functions, expense analysis, audit support and corporate account reconciliations. Departments/accounts assigned are generally those of intermediate to high complexity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • (not limited to duties as described – performs related duties as requested)
  • Performs month-end close functions including preparing and/or reviewing of journal entries for month-end close ensuring transactions are reasonable and in compliance with Business Processes, GAAP, CAS, and FAR.
  • Prepares detailed variance analysis for indirect departments, comparing actual results to plan and forecast, with explanations for variances.
  • Provides reports identifying variances and other reports as requested to management.
  • Prepares 3-year plan, forecasts, and capital budgets for indirect departments to include preparation of basis of estimates for DCAA.
  • Communication with department managers, Directors and VPs needed to assist with budget preparation.
  • Provides analysis of service center rates as assigned for forward pricing submissions to DCAA and interim review to department manager.
  • Maintains and reconciles corporate balance sheet accounts as assigned.
  • Requires data/transaction retrieval/analysis and coordination with other departments.
  • Reviews coding of invoices, relocation expense reports and check/wire requests for indirect departments, ensuring proper support provided.
  • Provides data and supporting schedules for internal and external audits to include financial statement audits, benefit audits and DCAA/DCMA audits.
  • Prepares consolidated annual accounting and tax packages and footnotes for year-end audit as assigned.
  • Accounting/analysis of intercompany account and month-end uncleared intercompany balance.
  • Partner with Human Resources and Payroll to resolve payroll discrepancies and ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Participates in continuous process improvement efforts relating to finance and creates/updates business processes, work instructions and forms as needed.
  • Provides other accounting/financial information that may be requested and assist management in interpretation of the data and its implications.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

BS Degree in Accounting or Finance 4 years professional-level accounting; including 2 years of Government contracting with multi-location employer.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Thorough knowledge of GAAP, FAR and CAS Working knowledge of accounting systems interfaces, applications, and software Proficiency with Excel and Word Individuals should be well organized and able to work in a deadline driven environment. Working knowledge of Costpoint, Cognos or TM1 helpful
