Job summary

NIIC National Interstate Insurance Company is seeking an Accountant II to join its Richfield, OH team. The role focuses on GAAP-based financial statement preparation, general ledger maintenance, and coordination with multiple departments.

The position supports audits, budgeting, and financial planning in a collaborative, on-site/remote hybrid environment. The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of accounting experience, knowledge of GAAP, and strong analytical skills, with CPA progress

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management and Insurance, Safety Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Accounting/Finance experience.
  • CPA designation, or progress toward CPA, preferred.
  • Insurance accounting experience preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in GAAP.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts with accuracy.
  • Prepare journal entries and handle month-end/year-end close.
  • Coordinate accounting matters with other departments and external customers.
  • Support internal and external audits with required documentation.
  • Perform financial analyses to identify trends and variances.
  • Produce ad-hoc financial reports and analyses as needed.
  • Support internal controls and policy adherence.
