Job Summary:

The Accountant I works alongside the Senior Accountant and Controller to calculate and prepare the monthly reports for provider productivity. This task requires the ability to analyze monthly charges to ensure accuracy, including researching and understanding information on patient accounts. This position is responsible for updating and maintaining the productivity reporting software, as well as generating detailed reports that are accurate and consistent. Excellent attention to detail is necessary to produce a well-organized, accurate, and complete final report that is both time and data sensitive.

Part of the Accountant I role is monitoring non-patient (client) billing for DOT, pre-employment physicals, drug screens, and other miscellaneous charges. Responsibilities include sending out monthly statements and processing payments to the appropriate accounts. Also, client billing requires charge verification and the ability to research and correct discrepancies on a routine basis.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Assist Senior Accountant and Controller in preparing various statistical reports
  • Perform various analyses and research projects as requested/needed
  • Assist in the monthly close process
  • Assist Controller and co-workers with various entry-level accounting tasks and reports, including journal entries and bank reconciliations
  • Maintain hospital contract records and manage database users
  • Organize and manage semi-annual ER Time Study
Education:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or a closely related field, required.

Experience:
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in accounting, preferred.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in a health care related setting, preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel; basic proficiency in other Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively determine priorities and plan workday with minimal supervision.
  • Ability and willingness to meet deadlines, including those of a last-minute nature.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong problem solving techniques and interpersonal skills – including excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills and the ability to adapt to various programs/systems.
  • Ability to communicate face to face and via telephone with patients and co-workers.
  • Strong investigative, analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems independently.
  • Maintain positive teamwork attitude and self-motivation.
  • Ability to compile accurate data and present to Executive Council.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new and varying tasks as requested.
