Job description

Tier One is a growing private risk management and security services entity, with approximately $13 million in annual revenue and more than 100 employees.

At Tier One, we believe security goes beyond simply providing a presence. Our mission is to deliver proactive, professional security solutions through disciplined execution, highly trained personnel, innovative processes, enabling technology, and trusted collaboration. Our leadership team brings more than 250 years of combined law enforcement and military experience, and we are committed to setting a higher standard for professionalism, training, service, and accountability.

As the organization continues to grow, we are strengthening the financial systems, processes, controls, and reporting capabilities needed to support that growth.

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior Accountant who can take ownership of the company's day-to-day accounting functions while also serving as a trusted financial resource to the leadership team.

This is not a position where you simply close the books and distribute reports. We want someone who understands the numbers, recognizes trends and concerns, asks questions when something doesn't look right, and can clearly communicate the financial health of the organization to company leadership.

What You'll Do
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and adjusting entries.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules.
  • Analyze financial performance and explain significant month-over-month and budget-to-actual variances.
  • Present financial results and the overall financial status of the company to the leadership team.
  • Assist leadership with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and planning.
  • Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities that require leadership attention.
Accounts Receivable & Billing
  • Oversee Accounts Receivable, including customer invoicing, payment application, collections, and aging reports.
  • Monitor outstanding balances and coordinate collection efforts.
  • Ensure invoices comply with customer contracts, billing rates, hours worked, and applicable tax requirements.
  • Research and resolve customer billing and payment discrepancies.
  • Work closely with operations to ensure employee hours, project codes, locations, and departments are properly coded.
  • Manage Accounts Payable, including vendor invoices, coding, approvals, payment processing, and reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate vendor records, tax information, and W-9 documentation.
  • Research and resolve vendor invoice and payment discrepancies.
  • Prepare and process annual 1099 reporting.
Credit Card & Expense Review
  • Review company credit card transactions and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure purchases have appropriate receipts, approvals, and account coding.
  • Follow up on missing documentation or questionable charges.
  • Reconcile credit card accounts.
  • Identify unusual, duplicate, unsupported, or potentially inappropriate expenditures and bring concerns to leadership when necessary.
Job Costing & Project Accounting
  • Manage job costing and project accounting for security contracts and other company projects.
  • Ensure payroll, labor, vendor expenses, subcontractor costs, and other project expenses are assigned to the correct jobs.
  • Analyze job profitability, including revenue, labor costs, direct expenses, gross margins, and budget-to-actual performance.
  • Work with operations and payroll to ensure labor and expenses are properly allocated.
Payroll & Inter-company Accounting
  • Prepare and review payroll journal entries.
  • Reconcile payroll-related accounts.
  • Ensure payroll costs are properly allocated by department, location, project, and job.
  • Prepare and reconcile inter-company transactions between Tier One entities.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies between related entities.
Cash Management & Compliance
  • Perform bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Assist with daily cash management, banking activity, and cash positioning.
  • Maintain a 13-week cash-flow projection and provide regular cash-position updates to leadership.
  • Assist with multi-state sales tax compliance and reporting.
  • Support CPA, financial statement, tax, sales tax, insurance, and other audits.
  • Maintain appropriate financial controls and supporting documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, accuracy, and efficiency.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Previous Accounting Management, Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, or similar experience preferred.
  • NetSuite ERP and QuickBooks experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and financial statement preparation.
  • Hands-on experience with Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Experience with job costing or project accounting strongly preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, formulas, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Comfortable identifying discrepancies, asking questions, and following issues through to resolution.
  • Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial leaders.
More Than Accounting

Tier One is committed to creating safer, stronger, and more stable environments through professionalism, training, disciplined execution, innovation, and trusted partnerships.

The same expectations apply behind the scenes.

We don't just need someone who can tell us what happened last month. We want a Senior Accountant who can help our leadership team understand:

  • Where are we financially?
  • What changed?
  • Why did it change?
  • What needs our attention?
  • What should we be planning for next?

This position will have visibility across the organization and the opportunity to directly influence the financial systems and infrastructure supporting a $10 million company with more than 100 employees.

If you're looking for an accounting role where you can take ownership, improve processes, work directly with leadership, and have a meaningful impact on a growing organization, we'd like to hear from you.

Tier One is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We use E-Verify to confirm eligibility to work in the U.S. and conduct a background check and drug test.
