Job description

Sargent Law Firm Injury Lawyers represents plaintiffs in personal injury matters, and resolves roughly $20 million in client settlements each year.

We have built a lean, modern practice and grown steadily. We have reached the point where finance warrants a dedicated function with one person accountable for it, rather than a set of responsibilities distributed across the team.

The position

This is our first dedicated finance role, reporting directly to the CEO and COO.

Responsibilities
  • General ledger and financial reporting across three affiliated entities
  • Settlement accounting, including lien payoffs, fee allocation, cost recovery, and client disbursements
  • Monthly three-way reconciliation of our client trust account, which handles approximately $20 million annually
  • Month-end close and a monthly reporting package for ownership
  • Cash forecasting in a contingency-fee environment where revenue timing varies
  • Payroll and accounts payable
  • Serving as primary contact for our outside CPA firm
  • Comfortable following up with the attorneys in our firm regarding accounting errors

You will have support for transaction-level work. This remains a hands-on role, with meaningful latitude to shape how the finance function operates.

Qualifications
  • Five or more years of accounting experience, including ownership of a full close cycle
  • Ability to operate effectively as the sole accounting professional in the organization
  • Experience with attorney trust accounts (IOLTA) or comparable client funds accounts — strongly preferred given the volume involved
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online
  • Willingness to raise concerns directly with ownership

Also valuable: multi-entity accounting, law firm or professional services experience, contingency-fee accounting, construction job costing, CPA licensure.

Level and compensation

We are open on level. A strong senior accountant prepared to step into broader responsibility is of interest, as is an experienced controller. We will hire at the level that matches the candidate and title the role accordingly.

Base salary is $80,000–$130,000, commensurate with experience.

Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and paid holidays.

Location

This position is based in our Coeur d'Alene office five days per week. Remote and hybrid arrangements are not available.
