• Bachelor's degree in Accounting with 3 credits in auditing.
• 3+ years examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports using GAAP.
• 1 year of experience performing accounts receivable accounting, account reconciliations, and billing.
• 1 year of experience preparing financial reports, account analyses, and journal entries.
• 1 year of experience performing month-end, quarter-end, or year-end financial close activities.
• 1 year of experience using computerized accounting or financial systems and Microsoft Excel.

The Accountant Advanced serves as a General Accounting Lead within Maryland's Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) Division, assisting the General Accounting Manager in coordinating financial management operations. This role maintains accurate financial records, oversees daily accounting operations, prepares financial reports and reconciliations, and supports month-end and year-end close-out activities for a statewide social insurance program covering 2.6 million workers.

Key qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing
• Three years of experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports using generally accepted accounting principles
• One year of experience performing accounts receivable accounting, account reconciliations, and billing
• One year of experience preparing financial reports, account analyses, and journal entries
• One year of experience performing month-end, quarter-end, or year-end financial close activities
• One year of experience using computerized accounting or financial systems and Microsoft Excel
