Maryland’s Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program makes sure all workers in Maryland have paid time off for medical and family reasons. FAMLI is a social insurance system covering 2.6 million workers and 180,000 employers, delivered as a digitally native, public-facing service. We’re in the early stages of building something as big and as far reaching as unemployment insurance or a new health department. We know that delivering services primarily through a website, over the Internet, is a new way of doing business in government. The Financial Services Directorate is responsible for establishing and maintaining an efficient financial system, including internal controls and financial procedures, for the FAMLI Division. The Financial Services Directorate safeguards FAMLI funds and other assets, manages FAMLI contributions and benefit payouts, develops financial reports, prepares budgets and projections, and supports internal and external financial audits. The Accounts Receivable Accountant Advanced performs advanced accounting and financial analysis in support of FAMLI’s Accounts Receivable operations. The position reviews and reconciles employer contribution accounts, billings, deposits, refunds, overpayments, interest, and penalties; investigates complex accounting discrepancies; prepares financial reports and journal entries; and supports financial close and audit activities. The position also assists with financial system testing, reporting enhancements, and internal controls and provides technical accounting recommendations to management.

The main purpose of this position is to perform advanced accounting and financial analysis functions in support of the Maryland Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) Program's Accounts Receivable operations. This position reviews and reconciles employer contribution accounts, billings, deposits, refunds, overpayments, interest, and penalties; prepares financial reports; supports audits; and ensures compliance with State accounting policies and FAMLI regulations. The position provides technical accounting support and recommendations to management regarding financial operations, reporting, and internal controls.
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing.
Experience: Three years of experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles.
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
