Job summary

The Maryland Department of Labor, Maryland’s FAMLI Division, seeks an Accountant Advanced to support financial management, accounting records, and reporting. You will assist with reconciliations, month-end close, and special projects to ensure accurate financial records and GAAP compliance.

The role includes preparing schedules, analyses, and reports, as well as assisting with audits and budgeting for the division’s operations, ensuring funds for daily benefit payouts and operations.

Qualifications

• Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing.
• Experience: Three years of experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles.

Responsibilities

• Implements and enforces standard procedures for the General Accounting team. Maintains effective internal controls to ensure the accuracy and reliability of FAMLI fiscal records.
• Maintains accounting records and financial statements in compliance with GAAP and in alignment with FAMLI objectives.
• Works with all members of the General Accounting team to ensure daily, monthly, quarterly & annual postings are being completed.
• Maintains & executes tasks for the monthly and year-end close-out; responsibilities include accruals, journal entries, GAAP schedules, assigned reconciliations and reports.
• Assists with bank accounts. Assists in resolving transaction issues. Ensures sufficient funds for daily benefit payouts and daily operations.
• Assists with the preparation of the annual budget. Assists in tracking budget, expenditure, and procurements for the Division.
• As requested, prepares financial analyses and reports to support FAMLI’s financial management decisions.
• As requested, assists with financial audits and other special projects.
