Job summary

Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) seeks an Accountant in District Support Services to manage treasury functions, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Prepare bank reconciliations for all accounts and research discrepancies across systems.
  • Perform daily semi-manual and monthly book-to-bank reconciliations.
  • Analyze variances to ensure timely accurate recording and GAAP compliance.
  • Collaborate with multiple colleges and departments; heavy use of Excel for large-volume reconciliations.
  • Coordinate EFT notifications and provide updates on deposits across accounts.

Job Summary

As a Treasury Accountant, you'll help ensure the accuracy and integrity of the organization's financial operations by managing treasury functions, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local government regulations. This role offers the opportunity to apply your accounting expertise and analytical skills in a collaborative, fast-paced environment where your work makes a meaningful impact.


Essential Functions

20% - Responsible for preparing the bank reconciliations for all Maricopa bank accounts, including leading the research of discrepancies across various bank accounts and systems such as Chase Access (banking), Chase Paymentech (merchant services), FMS (Treasury, AP, and Grants modules), HCM, and SIS.


20% - Performs the daily semi-manual bank reconciliation within FMS and also the monthly book-to-bank reconciliation for all Maricopa accounts.


20% - Researches and analyzes all variances on a daily/monthly basis to ensure all transactions are recorded in a timely manner so that the bank reconciliations are completed in accordance to Maricopa's policy and procedures.


20% - Collaborates with all colleges and multiple departments across the district to ensure transactions are reviewed and recorded within the system. Works heavily within Excel to reconcile a large volume of transactions across multiple bank accounts. Must pay close attention to detail and review complex bank reconciliations on a daily basis.


10% - Coordinates various notifications of all Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT's) transactions on a daily basis to all colleges so they are aware of funds that have been received. Also provides updates to other departments with the District Office of the various deposits that are received across multiple bank accounts. Works with colleges and departments to ensure timely recording and reconciling of various deposits across the district, and ensures GAAP rules and methods.


10% - Performs other duties as assigned and serves as backup for multiple tasks from other Treasury team members.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in finance, accounting, auditing, economics, business or public administration, or directly related field and two (2) years of experience that includes the application of GAAP theory and practice, tax laws as they apply to accounting transactions and reporting, and use of computerized accounting systems.

An equivalent combination of education and/or directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.


Desired Qualifications


  1. Two (2) or more years of experience in dealing with various banking transactions and/or banking systems.

  2. Two (2) or more years of experience in accounting or equivalent experience, including processing financial transactions, ensuring compliance with legal or contractual requirements, recordkeeping and preparation of monthly, quarterly and/ or annual reporting.

  3. Demonstrated ability to pro-actively apply knowledge, think independently, take initiative to solve problems, and skillfully interpret regulations, laws and guidelines - described in the prior experience listed in the cover letter and/or resume.

  4. Experience in time management applying organizational skills, attention to detail, communication and interpersonal skills - described in the prior experience listed in the cover letter and/or resume.

  5. Experience and proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel and Word.

  6. Ability to provide a high level of customer service and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with customers and peers - described in the prior experience listed in the cover letter and/or resume.

  7. One year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years


Special Working Conditions

May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time; viewing a computer monitor.


May be required to lift or carry up to 25lbs.


This position may not always have the benefit of working a summer schedule (four ten's). This position may be required to work partial hours on Fridays and work partial hours on days the bank is open and MCCD is closed, example; Spring Break, Thanksgiving holiday, & Winter break. This position requires decisions to the Bank for daily exceptions (fraud checks presented/dup checks presented/void/stale date checks presented).
