Job summary

Puyallup Tribal Health Authority in Tacoma, WA is seeking a skilled Payroll Accountant to join our on-site finance team. You will manage bi-weekly payroll, monitor ACA compliance, and support accounts payable and general ledger activities to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration with at least 24 credit hours in accounting from an accredited institution.
  • One year of direct accounting experience.
  • Full-cycle payroll experience for 50+ employees using electronic systems.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and the ACA.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience using automated accounting and payroll systems.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, and current liability insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll, including timesheet review, payroll verification, issue resolution, and retirement contribution reporting.
  • Monitor ACA compliance by uploading payroll data, tracking employee hours, and maintaining reporting records.
  • Process accounts payable transactions using automated systems.
  • Manage accounts receivable activities, including payment processing and banking transactions.
  • Perform daily cash monitoring and monthly reconciliations.
  • Prepare and maintain general ledger entries and monthly/quarterly/annual reports.
  • Review purchase requisitions for budget availability and grant compliance.
  • Provide customer service and admin support to staff, vendors, and external contacts.

Schedule: Full-Time | Mon – Fri, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Hiring Range: $57,103.07 - $65,668.60 per year

What You’ll Do
  • Process bi-weekly payroll, including timesheet review, payroll verification, issue resolution, and retirement contribution reporting.
  • Monitor Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliance by uploading payroll data, tracking employee hours, and maintaining accurate reporting records.
  • Process accounts payable transactions accurately and timely using automated accounting and purchasing systems.
  • Manage accounts receivable activities, including payment processing, banking transactions, and record maintenance in accordance with department procedures.
  • Perform daily cash monitoring and monthly reconciliations to ensure accurate tracking of fund availability and financial activity.
  • Prepare and maintain general ledger entries, financial reconciliations, and required monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting reports.
  • Review purchase requisitions for budget availability, grant compliance, and adherence to established organizational guidelines.
  • Provide excellent customer service and administrative support to staff, vendors, and external contacts regarding payroll, accounts payable, invoice inquiries, and other accounting-related matters.

Requirements
