Job summary

The role involves assisting with accounting functions, preparing records, reconciling bank statements, and ensuring accurate fiscal transactions to safeguard agency resources. Strong Excel and MS Office skills, plus 4 years of related experience, are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance and four years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, and strong analytical and computer skills.
  • Strong knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  • Ability to work effectively with others, as well as at various levels of independence when needed.
  • Detail-oriented. Good communication skills, written and verbally.

Responsibilities

  • To provide assistance and backup for accounting functions and systems.
  • To prepare and maintain accounting records, journal entries, and schedules.
  • To perform bank reconciliations, accounting schedules, and month-end closing processes
  • To receive, review, verify, and code invoices, vouchers/requests for accuracy, and timely processing.
  • To ensure fiscal transactions are handled accurately and timely in the prescribed manner to safeguard agency resources.

Job description

Horizon House, a non-profit organization, has been widely recognized for its services as a provider of community-based behavioral health, intellectual disabled and homeless services in Eastern Pennsylvania and the state of Delaware. Each year, Horizon House provides a continuum of services at over 100 sites to over 4,5000 adults with psychiatric or developmental disabilities, drug and alcohol addictions, and/or homelessness. A pioneer in the field of community-based rehabilitation, Horizon House is widely recognized for its innovative approach to the delivery of services in a community setting.

The Accountant will act as a liaison to other departments' staff in processing reports, training, accounting, problem resolution, and other assignments under the delegation of the Accounting Director.

Some duties to include:

  • To provide assistance and backup for accounting functions and systems.
  • To prepare and maintain accounting records, journal entries, and schedules.
  • To perform bank reconciliations, accounting schedules, and month-end closing processes
  • To receive, review, verify, and code invoices, vouchers/requests for accuracy, and timely processing.
  • To ensure fiscal transactions are handled accurately and timely in the prescribed manner to safeguard agency resources.

A successful applicant will have the following:

  • B.A./B.S. degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance, and four (4) years of experience or any combination of education, experience, and training that would provide the level of knowledge, skill, and ability required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, and strong analytical and computer skills.
  • Strong knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  • Ability to work effectively with others, as well as at various levels of independence when needed.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Good communication skills, written and verbally.
  • Able to work independently and as a team member.
Scope:
  • Required to sit for long periods of time.
  • Light lifting and/or carrying, not to exceed 25 lbs.
