Durham County Council is seeking an Accountancy Assistant in the Children and Young People’s Finance Service to support Early Years Funding and High Needs Funding. You will work with registered settings, provide funding guidance on new regulations, and contribute to monthly reporting for High Needs Funding.
You will also assist in annual revenue budgets, budgetary control, and final accounts closedown, with routine reconciliations and general ledger maintenance, under the Principal Accountancy
An opportunity has arisen within Durham County Council’s Finance Team for an Accountancy Assistant within the Children and Young People’s Finance Service to provide finance support, specifically to Early Years Funding and High Needs Funding Team.
The post is permanent and will be an integral part of a busy finance team, which provides day to day financial advice and information.
You will have significant involvement with our registered Early Years Settings (Schools, Private Nurseries, Childminders) and you will support them with funding advice and guidance of any new government regulations and system developments.
You will be involved in the production of monthly reports for Education Settings detailing High Needs Funding and provide advice and support to these settings.
You will assist in the production of annual revenue budgets, budgetary control information and final accounts closedown and carry out routine reconciliations and general ledger maintenance.
A range of duties and responsibilities will be covered throughout your career within the council’s finance function, offering excellent opportunity to widen experience and develop skills in working cooperatively as a business partner to key services.
You will report directly to the Principal Accountancy Assistant – High Needs Funding Team and will work closely within the Early Years Funding and High Needs Funding Team to support CYPS service needs.

You will need an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent OR Level 2 qualification and relevant experience of working in a busy finance environment/working in a finance/support environment.
You should also be committed to working towards AAT Qualification
