The Role
Mockingbird Marketing is hiring an Account Executive to drive inbound and outbound sales. We provide comprehensive digital marketing services to the legal industry. Our brand is known for being honest, upfront, client-centric and can see the entire chess board instead of mastering just one piece.
The AE will inherit an existing large pipeline of prospects, respond to roughly 10-20 monthly inbounds and generate more opportunities through proactive outbound efforts.
What You Will Own
Discovery and Scoping
- Run discovery calls with firm owners and managing partners and in-house marketing leads. Understand the root of the problems they are facing, their business goals, and craft the proper plan to address.
- Pull in our SEO, Advertising, and Website leadership before you scope and ensure the solutions match the client’s problems. We sell what we can deliver.
- Qualify out early and say so plainly. A bad-fit client costs us more than the retainer is worth.
Proposals and Closing
- Build and present proposals that connect our work to what a firm owner actually buys: signed cases, cost per case, and an intake process that doesn't leak.
- Handle pricing directly with internal stakeholders.
- Manage follow-up through multiple channels (phone, email, social) and balance the careful tightrope between attentive and annoying.
- Close the deal and get the agreement signed.
- Build the pipeline from what already exists: active open deals, past proposals, referral partners, dormant relationships, closed-lost opportunities.
- Keep every opportunity current in HubSpot (that's our CRM). If it isn't in HubSpot, it doesn't exist.
Handoff
- Hand every closed client to the Client Success Team with the scope, the promises, and the context written down.
- Stay close with internal stakeholders through the first 30 days so nothing you sell gets lost in translation. Develop strong partnerships through pedantic attention to detail and overcommunication with Client Success and Operations leaders to set the new client up for success.
What You Bring
- Five or more years selling professional or marketing services within an experienced sales organization, with a new business number you personally carried and hit.
- Sales orientation around our prospects’ business objectives, not just pushing some marketing channel, because that’s what we happen to do.
- Direct experience selling digital marketing to small and medium-sized businesses.
- Experience selling local SEO and PPC specifically.
- Strong preference: Fluency in how law firms actually make money. Practice area economics, case value, and intake should be a conversation you can hold without notes.
- Comfort with a monthly retainer sale and a 30 to 90 day cycle, selling to an owner and/or a committee.
- Clear, direct communication with no corporate filler Lawyers are walking bullshit detectors.
- The judgment to walk away from a deal that isn't going to work, and the confidence to explain why.
Tools You Will Work With
HubSpot, Teamwork, Claude, Google Workspace, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Zoom and our internal reporting stack.
Nice to Have
- An existing network of law firm owners, legal consultants, or bar association contacts.
- Familiarity with legal intake and CRM platforms such as Lawmatics or Lead Docket.
- A point of view on where legal marketing/professional services marketing is heading.
