Job summary

Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) seeks an Accessibility Technician to evaluate and enhance digital accessibility across course materials, websites, and online resources. You will ensure compliance with WCAG and legal requirements to serve CNM’s diverse community.

The role collaborates with faculty, IT, and support teams to review content, provide captions or formatting, and deliver accessibility training. A strong background in education technology and assistive tools is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe.
• Ability to travel between CNM campuses.
• Experience with digital accessibility standards and assistive technologies.
• Experience developing and leading training.

Responsibilities

• Review and remediate inaccessible course content or textbooks.
• Review captioned content for accuracy and escalate as needed.
• Provide captioning for short content items as directed.
• Deliver accessibility-related workshops to faculty and staff.
• Create and present materials on WCAG/accessibility best practices.
• Develop training opportunities using emerging教育 technologies for CNM.
• Develop online self-help resources, website content, and guides on accessibility.
• Provide information access to course content through notes for live activities.
• Format notes for student accessibility needs and deliver to students.
• Provide visual support, dictation, and equipment operation for access needs.
• Provide testing accommodation access for students on campus and online.
• Support campus-wide accessibility projects and related duties.

Compensation: $16.20 - $20.24

Position Summary

This position supports all members of the CNM community in creating an inclusive and accessible learning environment. The technician will achieve this by evaluating, enhancing, and ensuring the accessibility of digital technologies and content, including course materials, websites, and online resources, in accordance with established accessibility standards (such as WCAG) and legal requirements. This role is crucial in helping the institution meet the diverse needs of the CNM community.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Indirect student service through collaboration with faculty, staff, IT, and institutional support: Under departmental direction, works closely with faculty to review, assess, and provide basic accessibility remediation for inaccessible course content or textbooks.
• Reviews captioned content for accuracy.
• Escalates inaccurate content for professional captions or provides direct captioning of short content items as directed.
• Delivers accessibility-related workshops to faculty and staff under departmental direction.
• Creates and presents material for faculty and staff on best practices based on quality standards for WCAG/accessibility.
• Proctor and provide recommendations on emerging educational technologies and utilize this information to develop training opportunities for the CNM community.
• Participates in developing online self-help resources, website content, paper guides, workshops, presentations, and other support resources related to accessibility.
• Provides information access to course content through notes for all live course activities.
• This includes editing and formatting notes into the required format for student accessibility needs and delivering notes to students per departmental policy.
• Provides visual support, dictation, manipulation of objects, or operation of peripheral computer equipment to address specific student access needs per their accommodations.
• Provides testing accommodation access for students, both on campus and virtually, through proctoring, reading, and scribing.
• Supports other college-wide accessibility-related projects as directed by the department.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Having experience in the following is a PLUS.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe
• Ability to travel between CNM campuses
• Experience with (or the ability to learn) digital accessibility standards
• Proficiency with (or the ability to learn) assistive technologies
• Experience developing and leading training
