Job summary

The Loyola Notre Dame Library is seeking an Evening Student Supervisor - Alternate for the 2026-2027 academic year. The Alternate will manage the Help Desk, supervise student workers, and provide high-quality customer service during evening shifts.

The position is open to incoming sophomores, juniors, and seniors from Loyola University Maryland or Notre Dame of Maryland University. Graduate students may also be considered. Compensation is $15.00/hour.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled as a student at Loyola University Maryland or Notre Dame of Maryland University.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, with a focus on delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Proficiency with email, web browsers, and Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to adapt to policy, procedure, and technology changes.
  • Ability to move and/or lift up to 40 lbs. with or without accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises library operations during assigned evening shifts.
  • Supervises student workers.
  • Provides courteous directional, informational, and basic reference assistance to users in person, on the phone, and via email; refers research questions to librarians as needed.
  • Use Alma to check out, check in, and place holds on materials for students and faculty; perform advanced functions as appropriate.
  • Troubleshoot minor problems with building technology, including computers and scanners; refer copier and printer issues to designated contacts.
  • Completes data collection to document workflow as directed.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Description

The Access Services Department of the Loyola Notre Dame Library seeks to fill one (1) Evening Student Supervisor - Alternate position for the 2026-2027 academic year. The Alternate will work on an as-needed basis when regularly scheduled Evening Student Supervisors are not available to work their shifts.

The Alternate will manage the Library’s Help Desk, supervise student workers, provide high-quality customer service, and troubleshoot technology in the absence of a regularly scheduled supervisor. This position is open to incoming sophomore, junior, and senior undergraduate students from Loyola University Maryland or Notre Dame of Maryland University. Graduate students may also be considered.

Compensation: $15.00/hour

The Alternate may be asked to cover a shift during the following times:

  • Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 4 pm to 12 am
  • Saturdays between the hours of 8:45 am to 8 pm
  • Sundays between the hours of 11:45 am to 12 am

The Alternate is expected to work up to 15 hours during the final exam period. During inclement weather, the Evening Student Supervisor - Alternate may be contacted to assist with the Library’s operations. Shift changes will be made in consultation with the Head of Building and Access Services.

  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of email systems, Internet web browsers, and desktop office applications including Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to adapt well to changes in policies, procedures, and technology.
  • Ability to move and/or lift up to 40 lbs. with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise others.
  • Experience providing high-quality customer service in an academic library.
  • Experience supporting technology equipment.
