Job summary

Bennett College is seeking a Peer Tutor to join the Office of Academic Success and Student Development. You will provide individual and small-group tutoring, clarify course content, and promote effective study strategies to foster student growth and independence.

Sessions may occur on campus or online. You will participate in required training, maintain records, and collaborate with staff to support Bennett College students’ success.

Qualifications

• Must have earned a grade of “B” or higher in each course to be tutored.
• Must obtain a Faculty Letter of Endorsement for each course to be tutored.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to explain course concepts clearly and effectively.
• Ability to work effectively with students with diverse academic needs, learning styles, and backgrounds.
• Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
• Dependable, punctual, responsible, and self-motivated.
• Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of the Office of Academic Success and Student Development team.
• Willingness to learn new tutoring techniques, technologies, and academic support strategies.
• Demonstrated professionalism in communication, conduct, and appearance.
• Commitment to fostering a positive, respectful, and supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and small-group tutoring sessions in assigned courses.
• Facilitate learning by serving as a guide and coach rather than just giving answers.
• Reinforce concepts, skills, and applications as per course instructor expectations.
• Help students develop effective study habits, time-management, problem-solving, and independent learning.
• Adapt tutoring strategies to meet individual learning needs.
• Utilize technology and innovative methods to enhance learning.
• Assess understanding and provide constructive feedback for growth.
• Collaborate with the Director to identify student needs and plan support.
• Contribute to development of tutoring materials, study resources, and workshops.
• Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, student-centered environment.
