Job summary

Bennett College seeks a Peer Writing Consultant to support the Writing Center through one-on-one and small-group consultations, workshops, and resource development. Under supervision, you will guide writers through brainstorming to final drafts, helping them build confidence and independence in academic and professional writing.

Consultants must complete required training, participate in meetings, and promote inclusive, student-centered learning.

Qualifications

• Must be Bennett College student and eligible for work-study.
• Must have completed BP 151 and BP 152 with a grade of “B” or higher in each course.
• Must have or obtain two faculty letters of recommendation addressing writing strengths and interpersonal skills.
• Must commit to a minimum of five hours of Writing Center work per week.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work with students with diverse academic needs and backgrounds.
• Willingness to learn new writing consultation techniques and technologies.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and small-group writing consultations for students on academic, professional, or personal writing projects.
• Facilitate learning by serving as a guide and coach rather than completing assignments or editing writing for students.
• Support writers through brainstorming, organizing, drafting, revising, and final drafts.
• Help writers develop effective writing strategies and independent writing habits.
• Visit classrooms to facilitate writing-related workshops and develop handouts and resources.
• Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
