Job summary

Northeast Ohio College Preparatory School - High School Campus, part of ACCEL Schools, is seeking an Academic Support Specialist in Cleveland, Ohio. You will implement strategies to improve student engagement, support at-risk scholars, and collaborate with administrators to meet academic goals.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Guidance & Counseling with School Counseling Endorsement on a valid Ohio Teaching Certificate.
• Bachelor’s Degree with a valid teaching certificate.

Responsibilities

• Relentlessly work to meet all goals related to student achievement and culture as well as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals.
• Meet with students who are at-risk for retention each marking period and formulate a plan of action for academic success with involvement of the student and parent/guardian.
• Plan and promote programs which enhance the academic, social or emotional growth of students (e.g., Curriculum Fair, Career Fair, Honors programs, graduation opportunities).
• Meet with eighth grade students once each semester and mail updates on their promotion status to their parents; assist students with high school admissions applications.
• Support the educational and behavioral goals of all students, including those with an IEP or English learners.
• Work with the Director of Academics, Parent Liaison, and Dean of Students regarding discipline, attendance and academic challenges.
• Integrate culturally responsive teaching practices and implement school-wide culture expectations and norms.
• Monitor student eligibility for extracurricular participation; discuss test results and develop improvement plans.
• Aid students in developing high school and post-secondary educational plans in accordance with interests and career plans.

Education

Master’s Degree in Guidance & Counseling with School Counseling Endorsement
