Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of American Sign Language, English sign systems, Deaf Culture, and interpreting methods used to support deaf and hard-of-hearing consumers in academic, meeting, and platform settings.
• Ability to provide accurate sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation in advanced academic courses, department meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars, theatrical events, and other complex environments involving technical or specialized subject matter.
• Mentoring, peer guidance, and training responsibilities may be included to support interpreter development while upholding professional standards.

Responsibilities

• Interpreting in academic classes with significant and rapid interaction across levels.
• Interpreting in department, college, and university meetings critical to department life and development.
• Interpreting in conferences, workshops, seminars, theatrical and platform settings with multiple consumers.
• Mentoring other interpreters and providing training at employee in-service programs.
