Job summary

Management & Training Corporation (MTC) seeks a Reading Instructor and Basic Math Instructor at the Hawaii Job Corps Center in Makawao, HI. This full-time role requires delivering instruction per approved curricula and guiding students toward academic and career readiness.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree, a valid teaching certificate or PRAXIS, 1 year teaching experience, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Valid teaching certificate or PRAXIS exams and communication/computer proficiency.
• One year instructional experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide students with basic direction, instruction and assistance in designated area(s) of instruction: Reading & ELL.
• Motivate and counsel students in behavior, training, personal problems or study habits; coordinate with other staff as necessary.
• Develop and prepare lessons; recommend curricula changes and supplemental materials.
• Relate academic skills to career technical training and workplace requirements; assist individual students as needed.
• Review and audit all assigned areas regularly for contractual compliance and effectiveness of delivery of services to students; prepare related reports.

Salary: $62,054 - $67,020

Position: Reading Instructor and Basic Math Instructor

Schedule – Full Time, 8hr shifts, Monday – Friday

What you will be doing:

You’ll be responsible providing academic instruction to students in accordance with approved curricula. Provide students with basic direction, in compliance with government and management directives.

1. Provide students with basic direction, instruction and assistance in designated area(s) of instruction. Reading & ELL.
2. Motivate and counsel students in areas of behavior, training, personal problems or study habits; coordinate with other staff as necessary to resolve issues affecting student training.
3. Develop and prepare lessons; recommend curricula changes and supplemental materials.
4. Utilize workplace language and behavior expectations in the classroom; on a routine basis, relate academic skills to career technical training and workplace requirements; inquire if individual students need assistance.
5. Review and audit all assigned areas regularly for contractual compliance and effectiveness of delivery of services to students. Prepare related reports.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Valid teaching certificate, experience with youth, or PRAXIS exams, and communication/computer proficiency.
• One (1) year instructional experience preferred.
• A Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
