Job summary

Chaminade University of Honolulu is seeking a Special Programs Academic Navigator to support the Prison Education Program. This role focuses on engaging incarcerated students, promoting academic preparedness, and fostering student success across campus collaborations with faculty, program directors, and facility partners.

The navigator will help with reentry planning, provide workshops, track progress, and coordinate resources to ensure retention and academic achievement for participants.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Counseling, Human Resources, or other related field is required.
• Two years work experience in teaching, counseling, or administration in higher education is preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

• Build positive relationships with incarcerated students to provide guidance and academic support.
• Coordinate class and study hall sessions with facility staff.
• Assist students in understanding academic policies and available resources.
• Help post-release students connect with on-campus resources to support success.
• Develop reentry plans and educational/vocational goals with students.
• Deliver or coordinate educational workshops on topics like study skills and time management.
• Track and assess student performance to identify needed support.
• Assist with semester logistics and course material distribution in facilities.
• Collaborate with instructors to address academic challenges and provide interventions.
• Facilitate on-site study hall sessions weekly at Halawa Correctional Facility and communicate with students via LMS.
