Academic IT & Technology Specialist (On-Site - Canvas/LMS)
Job Description
Under general supervision, responsible for providing support for IT processes and enhancements that heavily support operations, research and education technology. Supports both faculty and staff in day-to-day operations and provides maintenance, planning and implementation of best processes.
This position requires full-time on-site attendance - we will only consider candidates located in or around the Bexar County area.
Responsibilities
- Completes several information technology related activities for assigned unit(s) including local area network management, website design and development, hardware and software installation and troubleshooting.
- Develops database applications using desktop database software programs.
- Develops queries and reports from desktop and institutional databases.
- Creates and maintains workflows; reviews workflows and makes improvements.
- Provides support to assigned customers; consults with customers on technology solutions to business processes; coordinates testing of new technologies.
- Serves as audio visual/computer service technician for seminars; maintains and trains users on wireless data projector system and teleconferencing equipment in departmental conference room.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED:
- Provides technical support, administration, and ongoing maintenance for learning management systems (LMS), with particular emphasis on Canvas.
- Supports faculty and staff in the effective use of Canvas for course development, instructional delivery, assessment, communication, and other education technology needs.
Qualifications
- Computer Skills: Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and both PC and MAC software, hardware, operating systems and network environments.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and follow complex instructions, and to analyze and diagnose computer problems.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak and interact with all levels of computer users.
- Attention to Detail: The ability to maintain a professional demeanor, pay attention to details and set priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Professionalism in delegating assignments and follow-up on project completion and accuracy.
- Experience in handling customer service calls and triage for problems is preferred.
- Experience working in a research environment.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's Degree degree with a concentration in Computer Science, Math or a related field is required.
- We will consider applicants with a high school diploma/GED if they can supplement their education with an additional four (4) years of experience.
PREFERRED:
- Experience with Canvas course development, course management, user enrollment, gradebook functionality, assignments, assessments, and LMS integrations.
Required Skills
- Three (3) years of related experience is required.
This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.
