Job summary

CoreCivic in Georgia seeks an Academic Instructor to provide basic education to inmates in a secure setting. You will teach mathematics, science, social studies, reading, writing and language arts, and develop level-appropriate lesson plans to support inmates’ development as responsible citizens.

You will plan a program of study, manage a positive learning environment, and use course outlines, handouts, and audiovisual aids.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
• Must be certified by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission in Adult Education, Middle Grades, English, Math, Social Studies, Science, Reading, Special Education or Health/Physical Education; or possess or be eligible for provisional teaching certification.
• Three years of classroom instruction experience is preferred.
• Experience in Microsoft Office applications is required.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Minimum age requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.

The Academic Instructor provides instruction in basic education subjects such as mathematics, science, social studies, reading, writing and language arts, to help inmates/students learn skills that will contribute to their development as mature, responsible citizens. The Academic Instructor maintains a positive learning environment, adopting secure classroom management practices, and develops level appropriate lesson plans.

• Continued employment in this position will be contingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining required agency credentials.
