Job summary

MUSC Health in Charleston, SC seeks an academically oriented HLA Laboratory Director/Assistant Director to lead the Histocompatibility Laboratory within the transplant-focused Pathology and Laboratory Medicine department.

The role requires an MD/PhD/PhD with 2–10 years of HLA experience, eligibility for ACHI certification, and ABP board certification for MD candidates. Responsibilities include on-call duties, virtual crossmatching, and guiding testing interpretation for transplantation cases.

Qualifications

• MD, MD/PhD, or PhD with 2-10 years of HLA laboratory experience.
• Eligible for HLA Laboratory Director Certification from the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI), or currently in an HLA Director-in-Training program.
• MD candidates must also be certified by the American Board of Pathology (ABP) in CP or AP/CP.
• Training in relevant HLA laboratory pathology under a Certified Director.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina, if applicable.
• At least 2 years in histocompatibility testing, transplant immunology, and immunogenetics.
• Ability to provide clinical laboratory support for solid organ and stem cell transplantation recipients and donors; proficiency in reviewing and approving histocompatibility and diagnostic testing.
• On-call duties, consulting for Virtual Crossmatching, and assisting the Laboratory Director with management tasks; interpreting results for clinical work-up of transplantation cases.
