Job summary

McGraw Hill is seeking an Academic Designer specializing in Science for K-5. This remote role focuses on planning and developing instructional materials for print and digital Science resources for students and teachers.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, ensure NGSS alignment, and help create assessments while meeting deadlines in an Agile environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education, science, or science education.
  • 5+ years of experience in educational publishing and/or editorial work.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and unpack NGSS standards for specific grade bands and group multiple performance expectations into cohesive, thematic learning units.
  • Proven success creating assessments that measure student progress across all three dimensions.

Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate, high-quality materials that meet curriculum standards and reading level requirements.
  • Follow approved workflows and meet intermediate and final schedule dates.

How can you make an impact?

McGraw Hill, the leading provider of digital and print educational resources, is looking for an Academic Designer who specializes in Science, Grades K-5. As an Academic Designer, you will help plan and develop instructional materials for print and digital Science products for K-5 students and teachers. This includes textbooks, interactive activities, assessments, and teacher lesson plans.

Remote position details

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States. This is a Project Status Worker (PSW) role with an end date of 8/31/2027.

What you will be doing:
  • Assisting in the development of elementary science instructional materials available in print and/or digital formats.
  • Producing accurate, error-free, high-quality instructional materials that meet curriculum standards and display appropriate reading level, grammar, and style.
  • Following approved workflows at all stages of development and meeting all intermediate and final schedule dates.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that market requirements, project schedules, and product goals are met.
  • Demonstrating effective organizational and excellent time management skills; the ability to prioritize, multitask, and exhibit flexibility to rapidly changing priorities and demands in an Agile work environment.
We’re looking for someone with:
  • A Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a major in education, science, or science education.
  • 5+ years of experience in educational publishing and/or significant editorial experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and unpack NGSS standards for specific grade bands and group multiple performance expectations into cohesive, thematic learning units.
  • Demonstrated success creating assessments that measure student progress across all three dimensions simultaneously.
  • Experience using tools like the EQuIP and EdReports rubrics to assess HQIM.
  • Experience working with digital curriculum development and digital educational products.
  • Great organizational skills, with propensity for hitting deadlines while managing multiple projects.
  • Experience working with Jira to manage sprint backlogs, track progress, and report on key agile metrics is desired, but not required.
  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements and prioritize the product backlog based on customer feedback and business value.
  • Classroom teaching experience is a plus.

The pay range for this position is between $54,500 - $64,000 annually. However, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Additionally, a full range of medical and/or other benefits may be provided, depending on the position offered.
