  • Educate and mentor medical students, residents, fellows, and other trainees.

Full-Time Faculty Position

Position Description

The Department of Dermatology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Academic Dermatologist and Dermatopathologist to join its growing faculty. The successful candidate will contribute to an integrated academic program committed to excellence in clinical care, dermatopathology, medical education, scholarship, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Faculty appointment and academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert interpretation of dermatologic biopsy and excision specimens using histopathologic, immunohistochemical, molecular, and other ancillary diagnostic methods as appropriate.
  • Produce accurate, comprehensive, and timely dermatopathology reports.
  • Offer subspecialty consultation and clinicopathologic correlation to dermatologists, pathologists, surgeons, oncologists, and other referring clinicians.
  • Participate in clinical dermatology or an additional pathology subspecialty, as appropriate to the candidate's background and the department's needs.
  • Educate and mentor medical students, residents, fellows, and other trainees through conferences, clinical instruction, case review, and didactic teaching.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary conferences and collaborate with faculty across dermatology, pathology and related specialties.
  • Contribute to quality assurance, laboratory improvement, regulatory compliance, and best practices in dermatopathology.
  • Engage in scholarly activity, including clinical or translational research, peer-reviewed publications, presentations, educational innovation, and quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Support the continued growth and development of dermatopathology services within the University of Maryland academic health system.
  • Participate in departmental, school, and institutional service appropriate to faculty rank.
Qualifications

Candidates must possess:

  • An MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of an accredited residency in Dermatology or Anatomic Pathology/Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
  • Completion of an accredited fellowship in Dermatopathology.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Dermatopathology.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in the candidate's primary specialty, as applicable.
  • Eligibility for an unrestricted medical license in the State of Maryland.
  • Strong diagnostic, clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to high-quality patient care, education, teamwork, and academic collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in an academic medical center or high-volume dermatopathology practice.
  • Expertise in complex inflammatory skin disease, cutaneous oncology, cutaneous lymphoma, pediatric dermatopathology, alopecia, transplant dermatopathology, immunodermatology, or molecular diagnostics.
  • Experience with direct immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, molecular testing, or other ancillary diagnostic techniques.
  • Interest or additional training in a complementary surgical pathology subspecialty.
  • A record of teaching, mentorship, scholarly productivity, quality improvement, or clinical research.
  • Interest in developing collaborative clinical, educational, or translational research programs.

Compensation and Benefits

Expected rank for this position will be Assistant Professor or higher, however, final rank and tenure status will be commensurate with selected candidate’s experience. Expected Salary Range: $270,000 to $375,000. The referenced salary range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. This salary range does not include all components of the departmental faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental variable compensation programs. Therefore, the actual compensation paid to the selected candidate may vary from the salary range stated herein. For more information, please contact the hiring department.

The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
