Qualifications

  • MD/DO or equivalent medical degree from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of an accredited residency in Dermatology or Anatomic Pathology/Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
  • Completion of an accredited fellowship in Dermatopathology.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Dermatopathology; board eligibility in primary specialty if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert interpretation of dermatologic biopsy and excision specimens using histopathologic and ancillary methods.
  • Produce accurate, comprehensive dermatopathology reports in a timely manner.
  • Offer subspecialty consultation and clinicopathologic correlation to dermatologists, pathologists, surgeons, oncologists, and other clinicians.
  • Participate in clinical dermatology or another pathology subspecialty as needed.
  • Educate and mentor learners through conferences, clinical instruction, and teaching.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary conferences and collaboration with dermatology and pathology teams.
  • Contribute to quality assurance, laboratory improvement, and regulatory compliance.

Full-Time Faculty Position
Position Description

The Department of Dermatology at the University of Maryland Schoolof Medicine is seeking a full-time A cademic Dermatologist andDermatopathologist to join its growing faculty. The successfulcandidate will contribute to an integrated academic programcommitted to excellence in clinical care, dermatopathology, medicaleducation, scholarship, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Faculty appointment and academic rank will be commensurate with thecandidate's qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert interpretation of dermatologic biopsy andexcision specimens using histopathologic, immunohistochemical,molecular, and other ancillary diagnostic methods asappropriate.
  • Produce accurate, comprehensive, and timely dermatopathologyreports.
  • Offer subspecialty consultation and clinicopathologiccorrelation to dermatologists, pathologists, surgeons, oncologists,and other referring clinicians.
  • Participate in clinical dermatology or an additional pathologysubspecialty, as appropriate to the candidate's background and thedepartment's needs.
  • Educate and mentor medical students, residents, fellows, andother trainees through conferences, clinical instruction, casereview, and didactic teaching.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary conferences and collaboratewith faculty across dermatology, pathology and relatedspecialties.
  • Contribute to quality assurance, laboratory improvement,regulatory compliance, and best practices in dermatopathology.
  • Engage in scholarly activity, including clinical ortranslational research, peer-reviewed publications, presentations,educational innovation, and quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Support the continued growth and development ofdermatopathology services within the University of Marylandacademic health system.
  • Participate in departmental, school, and institutional serviceappropriate to faculty rank.
Qualifications

Candidates must possess:

  • An MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree from anaccredited institution.
  • Completion of an accredited residency in Dermatology orAnatomic Pathology/Anatomic and Clinical Pathology .
  • Completion of an accredited fellowship inDermatopathology .
  • Board certification or board eligibility inDermatopathology .
  • Board certification or board eligibility in the candidate'sprimary specialty, as applicable.
  • Eligibility for an unrestricted medical license in the Stateof Maryland .
  • Strong diagnostic, clinical, communication, and interpersonalskills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to high-quality patient care,education, teamwork, and academic collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates who demonstrate one or moreof the following:

  • Experience in an academic medical center or high-volumedermatopathology practice.
  • Expertise in complex inflammatory skin disease, cutaneousoncology, cutaneous lymphoma, pediatric dermatopathology, alopecia,transplant dermatopathology, immunodermatology, or moleculardiagnostics.
  • Experience with direct immunofluorescence,immunohistochemistry, molecular testing, or other ancillarydiagnostic techniques.
  • Interest or additional training in a complementary surgicalpathology subspecialty.
  • A record of teaching, mentorship, scholarly productivity,quality improvement, or clinical research.
  • Interest in developing collaborative clinical, educational, ortranslational research programs.

Compensation and Benefits

Expected rank for this position will be Assistant Professor orhigher, however, final rank and tenure status will be commensuratewith selected candidate's experience. Expected Salary Range:$270,000 to $375,000. The referenced salary range reflects basepay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. This salaryrange does not include all components of the departmental facultycompensation program or pay from participation in departmentalvariable compensation programs. Therefore, the actual compensationpaid to the selected candidate may vary from the salary rangestated herein. For more information, please contact the hiringdepartment.

The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximumsalaries for this position and is based on the University ofMaryland School of Medicine's good faith belief at the time ofposting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end ofthe salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selectedcandidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors,which may include the successful candidate's geographic location,skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions,education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined bythe University.

Board-certified dermatologist or pathologist with fellowshiptraining and board eligibility or certification indermatopathology.
