Job summary

Portland State University’s Department of Economics seeks a Department Manager to lead operations, budget management, HR, marketing, and student success initiatives, while supervising department administrative staff.

The role reports to the Department Chair and collaborates with the Assistant Dean for Finance & Administration, staff in the Dean’s Office, other Department Managers, and campus colleagues to ensure compliant, efficient operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree plus 2+ years minimum work-related experience.
• Minimum 1 year supervising and managing staff.
• Program management and project coordination skills.
• Strong problem-solving and collaboration abilities.
• Self-starter with team and committee collaboration.
• Excellent oral and written communication and customer service.
• Ability to plan and organize activities and meet deadlines.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in complex data work.
• Experience with data analysis, reporting tools, and producing reports.
• Successful completion of a background check.
