Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in counseling or a related field and 2 years of professional experience

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree

Position Summary: Assist in the development and implementation of all services related to academic planning, academic support, academic major selection, career counseling, academic monitoring, and personal development for student-athletes. Ensures compliance with NCAA, SEC, and institutional rules compliance in the area of academic counseling.

  • Ability to monitor students' progress and coordinate their class schedule, tutorial sessions, and development.
  • Ability to communicate with coaches, students, tutors, and professors.
  • Ability to provide academic support and counseling in regard to students' courses and progress towards graduation.
  • Ability to provide individualized learning strategy training to underprepared and/or at-risk students and report on their progress daily.

Physical Demands: Stand; walk; reach with hands and arms, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and use close and distance vision, and peripheral vision.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary academic counselor for gymnastics, soccer, softball, and men's tennis. Monitor academic progress of student-athletes, including weekly meetings with student-athlete, daily monitoring of class attendance, academic appointment attendance, and grades. Daily communication with students, coaches, instructors, administrations, parents, and guardians with regard to students' progress toward degree and eligibility.
    Percentage of time: 40
  • Assist in developing and implementing all services related to academic planning, academic support, major selection, career counseling, academic monitoring, and personal development of student-athletes. Ensure compliance with UGA, UGAAA, SEC, and NCAA rules and regulations pertaining to the areas of academic honesty, progress toward degree, and eligibility.
    Percentage of time: 40
  • Participate in recruiting events, including evenings and weekends throughout the year.
    Percentage of time: 10
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA, SEC and institutional rules and regulations pertaining to the area of academic advising. Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Academic Counseling.
