Position Summary

The Department of Sociology is looking to hire an Academic Coordinator. The primary area of focus this position is academic advising of undergraduate students, support to graduate students, and development and implementation of special projects at the department level. This position will actively develop relationships to collaborate with various campus offices and increase student awareness of and participation in department and CSU activities. The Department of Sociology has a nationally recognized graduate program that offers MA and PhD degrees in Sociology and has approximately 40 students in residence. Additionally, the department has the largest undergraduate department in the College of Liberal Arts offering three concentrations, three minors, and a certificate. The Academic Coordinator works alongside department leadership to recruit, retain, and assist with programming for students in our academic programs.

Essential Job Duties
  • Support and coordinate administration of the undergraduate academic program, including scheduling, student support, minor advising and program processes.
  • Coordinate undergraduate recruitment activities, engagement, enrollment, and student success initiatives.
  • Coordinate administration of the graduate academic program, including tracking student progress, advising on graduate school requirements, and program activities.
  • Support graduate recruitment, admissions, and admitted-student engagement.
  • Coordinate alumni engagement and connections with students, faculty, and department programs.
  • Support key administrative processes including program planning, learning assessment, events, and other department initiatives related to the academic program.
Conditions of Employment

Pre-employment Background Check (required for all new hires).

Supervision: The position may supervisor a small number of student hourly positions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Education, or related field.
  • Minimum of one year experience working with students in an academic advising capacity.
  • Minimum of two years experience working as an office or administrative assistant.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working in collaboration with students and faculty.
  • Demonstrated experience in Word and Excel Software programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently complete special projects and tasks with little to no oversight.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with CSU Sociology course requirements.
  • Knowledge of the CSU processes, programs, and resources.
  • Familiarity with required and elective courses needed to complete Sociology degree.
  • Familiarity with transfer evaluation process.
Salary Range

Salary Range $50,000 - $60,000
