The Opportunity:

Washington State University's College of Arts & Sciences is now accepting applications for an Academic Coordinator/Advisor 2 . As an Academic Coordinator/Advisor 2 you will provide advanced-level professional advising for our Health Professions Student Center , including our Pre-Nursing program. You may also advise Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Speech and Hearing, and Pre-Nutrition Exercise and Physiology. You will advise students concerning career choice, course choices, academic major, and application process for professional school. Your duties will also include assisting with program data collection and analyzing for the purpose of program development, assisting with student recruitment and retention activities, provide workshops, teaching modules, and program assessments. Responsibilities may also include leading others and/or performing senior level professional duties for a level 2 position.

As the Academic Coordinator/Advisor you represent the Health Professions Student Center communicating with various Nursing and Health programs to increase matriculation rates and advise student clubs. You will be expected to maintain good working relationships with faculty in degree programs at WSU and with admissions offices for the professional schools both at WSU and at other institutions. Some evenings and weekends are required.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100 % FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible. This is an on-site/in-person role located on the WSU campus in Pullman, WA.

Monthly Salary:

$4,061.90 to $6,092.84 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years academic advising or related experience.
  • A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience.
  • Any combination of relevant education and professional academic advising experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.
  • Positions who will lead or supervise will require one or more years of full-time experience leading or directing the work of others.
  • Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques, with the ability to build trust and provide safe, supportive opportunities for students, from varied backgrounds, including, but not limited to, underrepresented, first generation, and/or high needs, to identify and pursue paths to graduation that support their educational goals and post‑graduation plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and respectfully interact with students, faculty, and staff of diverse social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds, and an understanding of the institutional barriers and equity gaps faced by historically under‑served student populations in higher education.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office including Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally travel and work some evening and weekend hours. Experience working directly with students/student services.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preference given to science or health care advanced degree.
  • Experience with recruitment and outreach.
