Job summary

Northern Michigan University seeks an Academic AV Technology Coordinator I to support university-wide installed and portable audio visual systems for classrooms, events, and administration in Marquette, MI.

Under the AV Operations Supervisor, you will troubleshoot, operate, and train users on video conferencing, streaming, and control interfaces while coordinating equipment setup, event scheduling, and on-call support to ensure high-quality presentations and seamless operations.

Job description

Northern Michigan University is seeking applications for an Academic AV Technology Coordinator I. The position works under the direction of the AV Operations Supervisor, provides support for university-wide installed and portable audio visual systems serving academic, administrative, and event needs. Responsibilities include day-to-day operational support of a variety of platforms and technologies including video conferencing systems, classroom AV equipment, and event production resources for NMU, regional, and national communities. Collaborate with Audio Visual Services team in coordination, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and user training of audio visual soft-client applications, control interfaces, video conferencing, and streaming recording systems. Assist with video conference and event management including scheduling, equipment setup, operating, monitoring and user support.

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree.

One year experience as an audio visual technician. Prior experience setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and supporting users with audio visual technology, preferably in an education or training setting.

Required knowledge/skills/abilities: Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of digital audio and video systems including audio and video compression, digital rights management, digital video communication protocols and standards, wireless technologies for video and audio distribution, videoconferencing systems, streaming video systems, and of industry practices and procedures as related to audio visual presentation services within a corporate or university teaching environment.

Basic networking understanding including principles, standards, protocols, and applications.

Skill in operating a wide range of audio visual equipment such as projectors, computers, cameras, analog and digital audio mixers, video recording equipment, fixed room and portable sound and lighting systems.

Demonstrated skills in diagnosing and troubleshooting end user problems, identifying client's needs, and recommending and/or performing appropriate solutions.

Excellent oral,written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical issues to a non-technical audience.

Ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relations with individuals, schools, and state and community organizations.

Ability to organize andcoordinate resources to expedite solutions and complete event requests within given deadlines.

Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative, work independently and follow through on requests and demands with minimal direction.Willingness to take on new projects, develop creative solutions and embrace new and emerging technologies that may have a positive impact on the university.

Ability to stand, climb, stoop, and crouch for extended periods of time, and able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. for short periods of time for set-up, installation, and repair of audio visual equipment and systems with or without reasonable accommodations.

Ability to provide positivecustomer service skills in a friendly, approachable and effective manner. Ability to remain calm under pressure and when problems occur.

Ability to work evenings and weekends and be on-call.

The schedule is traditionally Monday-Friday, 10:00 am-7:00 pm with occasional morning and weekend work required. The targeted salary range is $46,160-$49,600.
