Job summary

NNMC Northern New Mexico College in Española and El Rito campuses seeks an AV technician to ensure setup, operation, and breakdown of audiovisual and event technology for student activities and campus events.

Working with the Events & Student Life Coordinator and other campus divisions, you will install, test, and troubleshoot AV equipment; support performances, lectures, and exhibitions; and provide friendly service to faculty, staff, students, visiting artists, and the public.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 1–3 years of AV support, event technology, or IT support experience.
  • 1–3 years of operating an auditorium.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot AV, lighting, and stage functions for events.
  • Coordinate technical requirements with event organizers, faculty, staff, and external clients.
  • Maintain, test, and inventory equipment to ensure functionality.
  • Provide basic training or guidance to users on AV equipment and systems.

Job description

Position Summary

This position will ensure the successful setup, operation, and breakdown of audiovisual (AV) and event technology systems. This role supports student activities, campus events, and the Center of the Fine Arts (CFA) for Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) on Española and El Rito Campuses. The position, in conjunction with the Events & Student Life Coordinator, Director of Integrated Studies/Arts, and other campus divisions, develops programming that demonstrates innovation, diversity, and service excellence through community outreach and marketing for participants, including students, faculty, staff, visiting artists, and the public. This position reports to the Director of Integrated Studies.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • CFA Building Coordination: Work in cooperation with the Office of the President, Office of the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs, Office of the Associate Vice President for Student Success, Facilities Department, Arts and Human Sciences Department to coordinate and direct NNMC event calendars, program administration, support special events, and curriculum‑supplementing workshops; develop instruction exhibit management, digital media, and specialized installations on a case‑by‑case basis; coordinate exhibitions and workshops.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot AV, lighting, and stage functions for events (e.g., microphones, sound system, projectors).
  • Maintain, test, and inventory equipment to ensure functionality.
  • Coordinate technical requirements with the event organizers, faculty, staff, and external clients.
  • Create and coordinate the schedule and plan for events to meet guests' needs and expectations and highlight NNMC's distinctive program strengths.
  • Communicate with administration, faculty, and staff concerning specific roles in visits or events.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to campus clients.
  • Provide basic training or guidance to users on AV equipment and systems.
  • Must be responsive and thorough with communication.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma.
  • One to three years of experience in AV support, event technology, or IT support.
  • One to three years of experience operating an auditorium.
Preferred Qualifications
  • AA or BA Degree in digital media arts, audio engineering, theatrical production, or related field.
  • Five years of demonstrated experience in event planning, theatrical or live performance productions.
  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication.
  • Experience with and a demonstrated commitment to working with a multicultural student population.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrate highly developed people and public relations skills.
  • Exhibit strong communication, organizational, and management skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of sound reinforcement and microphone selection.
  • Demonstrate proficient soundboard and lightboard operation skills.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot sound, video, and lighting in performance spaces.
  • Desire to create a hospitable and informative student visit program.
  • Ability to work accurately and be detail oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and be self‑motivated.
  • Demonstrate proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to multitask and remain flexible in a highly dynamic environment.

Physical Demands

Repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of the computer. Must regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds. Sitting for extended periods. Bending over or crawling in tight spaces. Working on an extended detail‑oriented ladder or scissor lift. Bending over high drops with a safety harness. Handling and adjusting high voltage electrical equipment and sensitive electronic systems.

Work Environment

This is a varied work environment that involves working in the dark, in a theater with tripping hazards, and in an office setting for paperwork, daily organization, and outreach. During live events operations will be varied including in the production booth, on high elevation catwalks over the main theater, and in smaller operations in the little theater.
