Job summary

College of Charleston seeks an Academic Applications Administrator to serve as the primary technical expert for enterprise systems used in teaching and learning. The role provides operational support to faculty and students and ensures applications align with IT standards and strategies.

The ideal candidate will have an associate degree in IT and 2 years of IT experience in higher education, with preference for a Bachelor’s degree in CS or related field.

  • Must have expertise with the management and support of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and integrations into the LMS.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with vendor support to resolve system issues and communicates with stakeholders to meet user needs.
  • Develops system management plans, monitors logs and disk space, and documents procedures for training and support.
  • Performs third-party integrations and upgrades on-prem and vendor-hosted systems; tests software from vendors.
  • Participates in policy development and may lead large projects to implement complex technical solutions.

Job Purpose

The Academic Applications Administrator serves as the primary technical expert for all enterprise systems and integrations related to teaching and learning. Provides operational support to faculty and students on academic applications and systems. Ensures that existing and future applications align with the architectural and infrastructural standards and strategies set by Information Technology and in the institution.

Associates degree in an IT-related field and 2 years of IT-related experience in higher education is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply. Must have expertise with the management and support of Learning Management Systems ( LMS ) and integrations into the LMS . Candidates must also possess a deep understanding of LMS architecture, including system configuration and user hierarchies, as well as proficiency in learning analytics to track user data, measure the effectiveness of training and knowledge base articles, and generate detailed system-usage reports. Additionally, a foundational grasp of adult learning theory and UX/UI principles is required to design logical, engaging learning pathways. Finally, the successful candidate must demonstrate competence in accessibility compliance, specifically in testing system content against Web Content Accessibility Guidelines ( WCAG 2.1) to ensure full regulatory alignment. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates directly with vendor support to solve system issues for stakeholders. Stays in constant communications with stakeholders to meet user needs. Schedules and conducts one-on-one consultations with stakeholders as necessary. Consults with vendor experts, other analysts, and management on potential solutions for proactive systems management.
  • Develops effective systems management plans and strategies, such as monitoring of system and error logs, monitoring disk space, etc. Prepares and maintains documentation for use in systems support and training. Researches and recommends new technologies for the enhancement of the academic community and campus systems.
  • Performs and manages third-party integrations and upgrades on-prem and vendor-hosted systems. Debugs and tests systems software and system software packages purchased from vendors. Analyzes system design and develops methods to improve efficiency and performance of systems and applications.
  • Participates in development of policies and procedures. Leads, or participates in, medium to large project teams that implement complex technical solutions to meet campus requirements.

After hours support may be required to troubleshoot system/application outages. Some occasional travel for professional development, conferences and meetings may be required.
