JOB SUMMARY :
Under general supervision, the TRIO Talent Search Academic Advisor provides comprehensive, proactive, and individualized academic,career, personal, and financial advising to an assigned caseload of program participants. The Advisor is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that promote academic achievement, collegereadiness, postsecondary access, persistence, and successfulstudent outcomes.
The position requires a high level of initiative, accountability, professionalism, and student engagement in working withfirst-generation and low-income students. The Advisor will establish meaningful relationships with students and families, monitor student progress, identify and address barriers to success, and provide timely interventions and referrals. The Advisor will collaborate effectively with parents, school personnel, universitydepartments, and community partners to deliver individualizedservices and high-quality group programming that supports the goalsand objectives of the TRIO Talent Search program.

- Provide comprehensive and proactive academic, personal, career,and financial aid advising through individualized and groupsessions, workshops, and ongoing support services designed topromote student success and postsecondary outcomes.
- Recruit, enroll, and maintain an assigned caseload of eligibleTRIO Talent Search participants in accordance with programeligibility requirements, federal regulations, and programobjectives.
- Develop individualized student goals and action plans andprovide consistent follow-up to support academic planning, collegeexploration, career development, financial aid awareness, andpostsecondary preparation.
- Monitor and assess student academic progress, participation,and engagement and proactively identify barriers that may affectstudent success. Develop intervention strategies, provideappropriate referrals, and document follow-up.
- Take ownership of assigned student caseloads and programresponsibilities, ensuring that services, follow-up, documentation,deadlines, and assigned activities are completed accurately andtimely.
- Strengthen and promote a college-going culture within assignedtarget schools by engaging students, parents, and school personnelin activities focused on college admissions, degree and certificateprograms, career pathways, financial aid, scholarships, andpostsecondary opportunities.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships withtarget school personnel, university departments, communityorganizations, and other partners to expand educationalopportunities and resources available to TRIO participants.
- Plan, coordinate, and actively participate in college andcareer readiness activities, including campus visits, collegefairs, career exploration events, scholarship activities, financialaid workshops, and TRIO -sponsored programming.
- Maintain accurate, timely, complete, and confidentialparticipant records and advising documentation in accordance withfederal TRIO regulations, institutional policies, programprocedures, and established documentation requirements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal regulations,institutional policies, program requirements, and internalprocedures related to participant eligibility, services,documentation, confidentiality, reporting, and programoperations.
- Utilize program data and student information to monitorparticipation, identify trends, assess student needs, and supportinformed decision-making related to recruitment, retention, servicedelivery, and student outcomes.
- Remain current on federal TRIO requirements, college admissionrequirements, financial aid policies, career pathways,postsecondary trends, and best practices through professionaldevelopment, training, and independent learning.
- Develop, facilitate, and evaluate high-quality workshops,seminars, presentations, and in-service activities that promotecollege access, career awareness, academic success, andpost-secondary readiness.
- Take initiative in identifying opportunities to increasestudent engagement, recruitment, retention, and program visibilityand recommend strategies to improve service delivery and programeffectiveness.
- Represent the TRIO Talent Search program professionally atschool, university, community, recruitment, and outreach events andserve as a knowledgeable resource regarding program services andpostsecondary opportunities.
- Collaborate with TRIO colleagues and share effective practices,resources, and strategies to strengthen teamwork, improve servicedelivery, and enhance student engagement and outcomes.
- Demonstrate accountability for assigned responsibilities,caseload management, deadlines, student services, documentation,and program activities, while maintaining a high standard ofprofessionalism and responsiveness.
- Participate in required staff meetings, training, professionaldevelopment activities, and program events, including activitiesthat may occur outside the traditional workday or on weekends, asrequired by program needs and position responsibilities.
- Perform other duties assigned in support of TRIO Talent Searchgoals, objectives, compliance requirements, and studentsuccess.
- Ability to maintain the security or integrity of criticalinfrastructure, which may include communications systems, computernetworks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid,hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.

Hiring Range
$45,486.69 - $57,995.53
Education
Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Required Licensing/Certification
Valid Texas Driver’s License preferred.

- Work flexible hours, including Saturdays, as required tosupport TRIO Talent Search activities, workshops, recruitmentevents, and student programming.
- Travel locally and out of town, including overnight travel,when necessary, to accompany and supervise TRIO Talent Searchparticipants during college visits, educational activities,conferences, career experiences, and other program-sponsoredevents.
- Provide appropriate supervision, guidance, and support tostudents during program-related activities and travel.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adjust workschedules to meet program and student needs.
- Support the mission, goals, objectives, and compliancerequirements of the TRIO Talent Search program.
- Maintain communication with school counselors, teachers, andadministrators.
Work Experience
Two (2) years to three (3) years of related experience.
