The Academic Advisor provides proactive, student-centered academic advising to an assigned caseload, initially focusing on first-time-in-college (FTIC) students. The position provides personalized guidance and support to promote student engagement, persistence, retention, degree completion, and successful transition beyond college.
Bachelor's degree.
A Bachelor's degree plus two years of experience in student services, academic advising, counseling, or a related area; or an earned master's degree in counseling, student affairs, higher education, or a related field. Prefer direct academic advising experience in a community or technical college environment. Knowledge of academic advising principles, student development, student success, retention, persistence, and completion practices. Provide effective student support, advising, counseling, coaching, or related services. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively with students from diverse educational, socioeconomic, and life experiences. Ability to manage multiple student cases, priorities, and required outreach activities simultaneously. Ability to utilize technology to document student interactions,monitor academic progress, and support student success to ensure accurate and effective advising.
Monday - Thursday, 8:00 am - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 11:30 am. Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet student needs during peak registration periods, orientations, enrollment events, and other college activities. Occasional evening or non-traditional work hours may be required. Must be able to provide services at FDTC campus and instructional locations as assigned.
