Job summary

The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking a part-time Class Description role to support ESOL intake and assessment processes across multiple Maryland campuses. The position involves coordinating placement testing and advising, ensuring FERPA compliance, and maintaining test security under DLLR guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience in education, counseling, vocational rehabilitation, academic testing, admissions, or high-volume student services preferred.
  • Experience with standardized assessments and/or computer-based testing programs (CASAS or TABE) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate aspects of standardized placement testing and course placement.
  • Maintain and enforce test administration regulations and DLLR grant requirements related to exam security, FERPA, and ADA accessibility.
  • Supervise administration of grant-funded assessment tests (CASAS or TABE) per DLLR requirements.
  • Recognize National Reporting System education functioning levels and apply to student advisement.
  • Advise learners on skill levels, barriers to success, and course placement with sensitivity to cultural and coaching considerations.
  • Maintain test administration certification and attend registration team meetings.

Class Description

The purpose of this class is to perform complex administrative worksupporting the ESOL intake and assessment process.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree and one year full time or two years of part timeexperience in education, counseling, vocational rehabilitation,academic testing, admissions, or another relevant high-volume,student services department. Including experience related to Mustmeet program administration qualifications as required byMaryland's Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation's (DLLR)Consolidated Adult Education and Family Literacy grant within 30days of hire. Must remained test certified during duration ofemployment. Prior experience with administration of standardizedassessment and/or computer based testing programs (CASAS or TABEpreferred).

Class Specific Essential Duties
  1. Coordinate aspects of standardized placement testing and courseplacement aligned with guidelines of the Center for Adult andFamily Literacy (CAFL).
  2. Maintain and enforce the test administration regulations andDepartment of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation's (DLLR) grantrequirements as they relate to exam security, FERPA compliance, ADAaccessibility, and the CCBC Student Code of Conduct.
  3. Supervise the administration of grant-funded assessment tests(Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) or Test ofAdult Basic Education (TABE) aligned with test administration andDLLR requirements.
  4. Recognize National Reporting System (NRS) educationalfunctioning levels (EFLs) and apply knowledge of EFLs to studentadvisement for DLLR grant-funded courses.
  5. Advise learners on adult basic skill levels, barriers tosuccess, and goal setting. Advise on proper course placementaligned with academic levels and course availability. Applyculturally responsive knowledge and coaching strategies to studentinteractions.
  6. Maintain test administration certification and attendregistration team meetings as scheduled.
