Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an Academic Advising Coordinator on the UT Main Campus. The role leads an advising team, supervises staff, and serves as the liaison between Student Affairs and academic departments, with a primary focus on the Government department.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and eight years of experience working with college students or in an academic advising capacity, or a Master's degree with six years, or a Doctoral degree with four years.
• Required competencies include accuracy, decision making, effective communications, initiative, interpersonal relationships, problem solving, service excellence, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise an academic advising team; hire, evaluate, and develop staff; oversee training and continuous education.
• Coordinate advising services for undergraduates and serve as lead advisor for embedded departments.
• Collaborate with Student Affairs and Liberal Arts units on policies, procedures, and resource coordination.
• Advise students on education, career planning, and timely graduation; develop success plans and referrals as needed.
• Participate in orientation activities; prepare advising materials and support first‑year and transfer students.
• Engage in professional development, meetings, and college/university initiatives.
• Assist with registration, course selection, and degree progress; manage holds, waitlists, and prerequisites.
• Maintain student notes and degree profiles; provide clear communication to faculty and staff.
• Represent the advising team in university committees and events; support departmental programs and outreach.
