Position Overview

This position is responsible for advising students on degree/program requirements and course scheduling. The coordinator maintains and updates student status records, transcript evaluations, degree plan audits, and graduation applications. The role also includes leadership in training and mentoring other advisors, outreach/recruitment activities, managing special projects, and serving as a subject matter expert on specialized majors and transfer credit application.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, professional academic advising, or related experience. A master’s degree can substitute for one year of experience.

  • Strong presentation, problem‑solving, and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently.

Bilingual Spanish.

Job Duties
  • Evaluate transcripts, AP scores, CLEP, or other nontraditional transfer credit hours for applicability to UNT Dallas degree programs according to established criteria.
  • Compare contents of each degree plan against the established requirements for a particular degree and notify students of discrepancies.
  • Proactively advise students and groups from entry to completion; provide career/pathway exploration and career planning.
  • Provide holistic student support through collaboration with academic units and the division of Student Access and Success.
  • Work with the advising team utilizing case‑management methods.
  • Contact students who have received academic alerts to recommend solutions and provide support.
  • Confere with faculty or administrators regarding academic policy issues such as acceptable course substitutes for a particular degree.
  • Assist the Registrar’s Office in determining student eligibility for graduation.
  • Assist with graduation exercises.
  • Serve as contact person for specialized programs of study or certificate programs.
  • Advise students pursuing a post‑baccalaureate degree or certificate.
  • Help students with a UNT Dallas GPA below 2.0 develop a plan for academic recovery.
  • Collaborate with staff and faculty to support retention initiatives (early alerts, mid‑term grade outreach, RFY programming, etc.).
  • Assist new and transfer students during orientation advising sessions for a seamless transition to UNT Dallas.
  • Determine TSI testing and appropriate course placement for incoming new and transfer students.
  • Provide robust advising to students completing TSI requirements.
Physical Requirements
  • Repeating motions involving wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Sedentary work primarily involving sitting/standing.
  • Mobility to accomplish tasks or move between work sites.
  • Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
Environmental Hazards
  • No adverse environmental conditions expected.
Work Schedule

Monday‑Friday 8:00 am‑5:00 pm; a few weekends may be required.
